Window replacement will enhance your home.
Looking for an easy way to save energy in your home?
According to Bill Inman of Rennovations and Glass, installing new windows is one of the easiest ways to do it.
Today, windows are made of aluminum, vinyl or wood, and come in many styles, sizes and qualities.
According to Inman, vinyl windows are the best quality and lowest maintenence of todays windows.
Aluminum windows are good, but have a tendency to sweat during the colder months of the year.
Wood windows provide excellent quality and are appealing to the eye, however, they are more expensive than vinyl or aluminum windows.
Prices for windows varies depending on size and style. The average cost of a window measuring 30 inches by 24 inches is around $120. Prices rise for retrofit (custom size) and shaped windows.
Most windows put in new homes today are double pane and are made with energy-saving low-E glass.
Low-E is a glass coating that alters the way glass transmits visible and invisible light. The coating helps reduce heat loss in the winter and heat gain in the summer by blocking nearly all long-wave infrared light.
Windows also come in a number of styles. Sliders are the most popular, with single hung and double hung windows close behind. Fixed windows are the most popular for large picture windows.
Inman said there are two things to make sure of before purchasing windows at this altitude.
The frame that connects the two panes of glass should contain a small air-filled tube that keeps the window from sucking together.
Dark-colored vinyl window panes should be avoided in this area because the heat on the exterior of the house will cause the vinyl to bubble.
Inman said customers should take their time when choosing windows and should avoid large-chain retail stores.
"Window professionals are the best bet when buying windows. Big stores may offer lower prices, but most don't offer warranties," said Inman. "Plus, if you ever have problems it's hard to get service in a timely manner."
Windows may be costly to replace, but Inman said if the windows in the home are worn out, the money you will save in energy bills will more than pay for the windows in no time.
